Ministry of Defence of Ukraine Sources: Starshield Connectivity on Move Restored
The Starshield military satellite communications system has resumed operation. In general, the system is used by the Ukraine’s Defense Forces, especially in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The sources of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine told Militarnyi.
The Defense Ministry is continuing negotiations with partners to clarify all the reasons and circumstances behind the restrictions imposed earlier.
“As of now, Starshield connectivity while in motion has been restored and remains operational. We are monitoring the situation based on reports from military units,” the sources of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine said.
On the night of October 14, SpaceX unilaterally restricted the operating speed of Starshield connectivity while in motion.
The decision significantly affected the work of Ukrainian drones. The Ukraine’s Defense Forces were not given advance notice of the new restrictions, which resulted in the disruption of several missions. This complicated the operation of interceptor drones and medium-range strike UAVs.
On the same day, the sources of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine told Militarnyi that Starshield satellite connectivity while in motion had improved, with the maximum speed for SpaceX’s military communications system reaching 160 km/h.
