US Oshkosh Defense Begins Production of First DXPV Kaaiman Prototype for the Netherlands

US company Oshkosh Defense has begun production of the first prototype of the Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle (DXPV) Kaaiman military off-road vehicle for the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

The company announced this on October 13 in an official press release.

The DXPV is based on the American Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) and adapted to the Dutch marines’ requirements for expeditionary operations, particularly in coastal areas.

Compared with the base JLTV platform, the new vehicle features an upgraded suspension for improved off-road mobility, enhanced corrosion protection for operation in marine environments, and the ability to fit modular armor.

In addition, the design incorporates enhanced systems for operation in various climate conditions, integrated onboard equipment, and a modular architecture that allows further upgrades to meet customers’ requirements.

The prototype is being built on an existing production line that also manufactures JLTV-based vehicles equipped with counter-drone systems.

Using a production platform helps shorten the development timeline and prepare the new version for manufacture more quickly.

Militarnyi previously reported that in April 2025, the Netherlands selected Oshkosh Defense to supply 150 DXPV vehicles under the Future Littoral All-Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV) program.

In June 2025, the parties signed an agreement to supply the vehicles to the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.

The vehicles were given the local name Kaaiman, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.

In January 2026, the Netherlands also ordered an additional batch of DXPV vehicles worth $25–30 million. The number of vehicles in the order was not disclosed.

The new ORVs are expected to improve Dutch marines’ mobility during coastal operations and in challenging off-road conditions.
