Sweden Extradited Russian National Who Supplied Microelectronics to Russia in Circumvention of Sanctions to USA

Sweden extradited 52-year-old Russian citizen Alexandr Suvorov to the U.S., where he is accused of illegally supplying American microelectronics to Russia in circumvention of sanctions.

This was reported by the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to the U.S. investigation, from March 2022 to April 2023, he ran a procurement network that supplied dual-use electronic components to Russia through GS Group Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. According to the investigation, some of these components can be used in military communications and radar systems, as well as in high-precision positioning systems.

“According to the charges, Alexandr Suvorov organized an international procurement network that illegally supplied U.S.-manufactured electronic components with military applications to buyers in Russia,” said Roman Rozhavsky!, assistant director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Espionage Division.

Suvorov was extradited to the Northern District of New York on October 15. The next day, he was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Albany.

He faces three charges: conspiracy to launder money in international transactions, illegally exporting goods from the United States, and violating the Export Control Reform Act.

Under the first and third counts, Suvorov faces up to 20 years in prison; under the second, up to five years. He may also face a fine.

Products from Texas Instruments account for the largest share, along with components from National Semiconductor, which it acquired—more than half.

Sanctions against the A7 network

In early October, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against the A7 shadow banking network, which is linked to Russia and Iran.

A7 developed a large-scale network of front companies that allows Russia to circumvent Western sanctions and purchase goods for its military-industrial complex.
