Ukrainian Sniper Halts Russian Armored Vehicle with Single Shot
A sniper using a large-caliber rifle struck the driver-mechanic of a Russian armored personnel carrier from a distance of 1,700 meters during an enemy assault operation.
The military Telegram channel Sniper Group E40 published the footage of the combat action.
The Ukrainian sniper fired a series of precise shots from a 12.7×99 mm anti-materiel rifle at a distance of 1,700 meters, hitting the Russian armored vehicle and causing it to stop on the battlefield.
His publication notes that the fire over such a long distance had to be fired from an uncomfortable position and in poor visibility.
“The vehicle was stopped, the Russian radio was shouting that the driver’s head was taken off – shock. Even the sniper himself did not believe in this outcome at first. But this is not a fable. This is the work of our most experienced sniper,” the military shared.
The damage to the driver of an enemy armored personnel carrier cannot be visually confirmed due to the heavy anti-drone superstructure made of rubber sheets that completely obscure the view. However, the vehicle stopping may indicate that the crew or the engine located nearby was hit.
Rifles of 12.7×99 mm (.50BMG) caliber are classified as anti-material because of their ammunition’s high destructive and penetrating power, allowing them to fight unarmored and lightly armored vehicles at long distances.
Unlike specialized high-precision long-range systems, these rifles have powerful, armor-piercing, incendiary ammunition that can penetrate up to 22 millimeters of armor.
A month earlier, Militarnyi reported another accurate shot by a Gray Area Group sniper at a distance of 1,450 meters from a large-caliber rifle at an enemy infantryman.
The target was hit with a rarely used Canadian 12.7mm PGW LRT-3 rifle and armor-piercing ammunition.
The video recording and adjustments of the shooter were carried out using SAFRAN JIM LR multifunctional binoculars with a laser rangefinder.
Last December, a Ukrainian Special Forces officer of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine eliminated a Russian soldier at a distance of 2069 meters. The invader’s elimination at a distance of 2069 meters became a record for a sniper and a record for Ukraine in terms of the range of the enemy elimination with the .338 Lapua Magnum ammo.
