Ukrainian Defense Forces Destroy 38 of 46 Attack Drones on October 7
The Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down or jammed 38 of the 46 Shahed-type attack drones launched by Russia overnight on October 7.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the figures in its preliminary assessment of the attack, released at 9:00 a.m.
This means that Ukrainian air defenses neutralized about 83% of the jet-powered drones used in the attack.
More than one-third of the 130 drones used by Russian forces to attack Ukraine were jet-powered. Overall, Russian forces used Shahed drones, Gerbera drones, and Parodiya decoy drones. As of 9:00 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Force reported that 117 drones of various types had been shot down or suppressed.
The drones were launched from Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea. The main areas targeted in the combined attack were the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Milіtarnyi previously reported that as of September 26, Russia had used more than 2,730 Geran jet-powered drones against Ukraine since the beginning of the month, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down or suppressed more than 1,500 of them – about 55% of the total.
Preliminary results from today’s attack indicate a higher percentage of neutralized jet-powered drones than in the previously reported estimate. However, it is too early to conclude from a single attack that this represents a sustained improvement in the interception rate.
