UK Ready to Spend Over £100 Million on Troop Deployment in Ukraine
The United Kingdom is ready to spend over £100 million on a potential deployment of its troops to Ukraine after the fighting stops.
John Healey, the UK Defense Secretary, stated this, according to Sky News.
He noted that British troops could be ready for deployment as soon as it became possible, including ground forces.
The Secretary’s plan includes preparing British troops to take part in a multinational force that would secure Ukraine’s borders if U.S. President Donald Trump brokers a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.
John Healey recalled that the UK and France have formed the Coalition of the Willing, made up of over 30 countries, to create a “multinational force” that would help secure Ukraine’s air and maritime space and train its troops, should Russia agree to halt the fighting.
“As President Trump leads efforts to achieve peace, here in Europe, we are ready to lead the work to secure that peace in the long term. As for our armed forces, I am already reviewing readiness levels and accelerating the allocation of millions of pounds to prepare for a possible deployment in Ukraine,” Healey stated.
When asked about the scale of spending, the Secretary responded that it would “significantly exceed” £100 million.
Earlier, it was reported that as part of its support for Ukraine, the Coalition of the Willing plans to send experts in logistics, weaponry, and training to assist in the restoration and reform of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
In addition, coalition air forces, together with the Ukrainian Air Force, are to ensure the security of Ukrainian airspace.
Coalition aircraft patrolling the skies is intended to enhance the safety of the civilian population and create conditions for the restoration of regular international air traffic.
There are also plans to strengthen the Black Sea operational group, which includes Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria.
It will be reinforced with specialized personnel, enabling faster demining of the Black Sea waters and ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime access to and from Ukrainian ports.
