North Korea Acknowledges Its Involvement in War Against Ukraine
North Korea has declared the successful completion of its operation to liberate the Kursk region, a mission that was launched under the direct orders of Kim Jong Un.
The announcement was made through an article by North Korea’s Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to the report, it was Kim Jong Un who made the decisive call to send troops into Russia, formally notifying the Russian government of the move.
“Comrade Kim Jong Un made the decision to involve our armed forces in the war, informed the Russian side, and in accordance with the agreement, issued an order to the combat units of the Republic’s Armed Forces to eliminate the Ukrainian neo-Nazi invaders and liberate the Kursk direction in cooperation with the Russian Armed Forces,” the article states.
It is claimed that as of now, “the operations to liberate the Kursk direction… have been successfully completed.”
The publication specifically highlighted the participation of the command staff of the Special Operations Group, who took part in the battles in the Kursk direction, thereby confirming previous intelligence reports from South Korea about the involvement of North Korean Special Forces.
The North Korean prisoners of war captured by Ukrainian Special Forces — 26-year-old Ri and 21-year-old Pek — revealed that they were the soldiers of the Main Intelligence Directorate (정찰총국) of the General Staff of the Army.
Earlier, they were mistakenly believed to be the fighters from the 11th ‘Assault’ Corps of the SOF Command. The identification of the deceased North Korean soldiers was complicated due to the issuance of fake Russian documents to the fighters.
All of them were equipped with Russian gear and mostly armed with Russian weapons, although Militarnyi has repeatedly noted the presence of North Korean machine guns.
The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces units collected genetic material samples from the deceased to confirm the involvement of a third party on the side of the Russian military.
The collected data was to be entered into the relevant databases for further investigative actions.
As previously reported, Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, for the first time acknowledged the participation of the North Korean military personnel in the battles against the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region.
