New Russian UMPB-5R Bomb Uses Jet Engine from China
Russia is equipping its new UMPB-5R bomb with a Chinese jet engine to increase its strike range.
Radio equipment specialist Serhii Flesh published photos of such an engine and fragments of the munition on social media.
Recently, such a bomb reached the Poltava region, the prosecutor’s office reported.
Judging by the photos, the Russians are fitting the bomb with an SW800Pro-Y turbojet engine produced by the Chinese company Swiwin.

It is intended for use in unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and large model aircraft.
Maximum thrust of the engine (at 65,000 rpm) – 80 kgf. Weight – 10 kilograms. It is available for purchase through various websites.

The Russians also use this company’s jet engines on the S8000 Banderol cruise missiles.
The Prosecutor’s office documented the use of a Russian UMPB-5R-type aerial bomb on the city of Lozova in the Kharkiv region earlier in October. It covered approximately 130 kilometers.
At the same time, the first instances of using UMPKs with a jet engine were recorded as early as late spring to early summer 2025.
Adding a jet engine to the bomb significantly increases its range and allows Russian aircraft to stay outside the engagement zone of Ukrainian air defense systems and fighter aircraft.
Intelligence
Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, recently reported that Russia has started producing guided aerial bombs equipped with upgraded UMPK kits, capable of striking targets at distances of up to 200 kilometers.
According to him, such modules are installed on conventional aerial bombs with calibers ranging between 250 and 3,000 kilograms.
