First Patria Armored Personnel Carriers from Latvia Arrive in Ukraine
Latvia has delivered the first batch of new Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced this during her visit to Kyiv, noting that the second batch is already being prepared for shipment.
The overall package includes 42 vehicles, consisting of Patria armored personnel carriers along with other military equipment, with a total value of around 70 million euros.
In early February, the Ukrainian ambassador to Latvia was given a tour of the production facilities for the first batch of these armored vehicles, where the factory showcased its capabilities in manufacturing equipment for the Ukrainian military.
The Patria facility in Latvia has the capacity to produce approximately 30 armored vehicles per year. However, its production capabilities are already actively engaged in fulfilling contracts for the Latvian Armed Forces.
The Patria 6×6 armored personnel carrier is a modern, multi-purpose combat vehicle developed by the Finnish company Patria. It is designed to transport personnel and weapons while performing combat missions in challenging conditions.
Thanks to its powerful diesel engine and independent suspension on each wheel, the Patria 6×6 can traverse rough terrain, cross water obstacles, and travel at high speeds on highways.
On roads, the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, with a range of up to 700 kilometers on a single tank of fuel.
The armor of the Patria 6×6 meets international STANAG 4569 standards, providing protection for the crew against small arms fire, artillery shell fragments, and mine blasts.
Beyond its standard armor, the Patria 6×6 can be equipped with additional add-on armor to further enhance crew protection.
The vehicle boasts a spacious troop compartment capable of carrying up to 10 soldiers, enabling efficient deployment in tactical operations.
Its modular design allows the Patria 6×6 to be fitted with a variety of weapons, including 12.7 mm machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, or combat modules armed with heavy weaponry, making it a highly versatile platform suited for a wide range of combat roles.
